Traveling While Femme... and Sexy

This post is part what I did and how I did it, and part "what I want to do in the future" - as you may know from my tweets, instagrams, and regular mention, I travelled internationally for just over two months in Summer/Fall 2015 to be with my partner in Israel. I'm hoping to do more traveling this year for conferences, maybe to Israel again, or perhaps within the US with my partner later this year, so this post will also talk about some things I'm wishlisting for that. The Smitten Kitten, as lovely as they are, were kind enough to provide some sexy stuff for my trip - because they're wonderful.

Advice for traveling while sexy:

  • For condoms, check expiration dates and stock up with more than you'll need for the trip, especially if you're going international or to the middle of nowhere. Don't want to run out of your favorite brand! Keep condoms in a standard tupperware container - feel free to put lubes in, too!
  • Same for lube: stock up on favorites. If you don't use latex barriers (Nitrile and Polyeurethane, but not polyisoprene are oil safe), get a solid oil lube like Southern Butter - saves on mess. Even in a boiling hot car they didn't melt all over everything!
  • Run through re-chargable batteries or take out batteries on your vibes. Sterilize & store toys in clear plastic bags.
  • Carry expensive, one-of-a-kind stuff in your carry-on. TSA usually doesn't care, but they might ask you about it so be prepared for that.

Since I was seeing my partner, I knew I wanted lube, toys, and other fun stuff that would last me for my trip. Although The Smitten Kitten gave me some battery operated vibes to check out, I also wanted my favorite WeVibe Touch (2nd Edition) and I brought along a Nobessence toy that SheVibe gave me awhile back. Because I had decided to take my pricier toys in my carry-on, wood seemed like a good choice since it's not as heavy as metal or glass, and the organic shape meant it wouldn't look as intense as say, the Bound, if TSA decided to pull it out. I put those and my solid Southern Butter travel lubes in a Spareparts Tomboi stretchy storage bag my old boss gave me - a customer didn't want the box or the storage bag after buying one. Because it's stretchy, it's great for carrying toys and supplies in (and the harness, if you have it!), whether you're going to a beau's house or a play party.

The Kitten Crew also outfitted me with some Bondage Tape (great for disposable and easy bondage), This amazingly soft Bamboo Rope, and a kit from SeaGrape Soaps with all sorts of fun stuff. I adore SeaGrape for everything massage-related, and all of their other products are divine and handmade by one of the sweetest people ever. If you haven't tried Maria's products out yet, I highly recommend doing so.

I recommend keeping things relatively simple on the toys side - bring absolute favorites and try to keep it light unless you can afford to bring an extra bag full of goodies for a romantic getaway.

I just really, really loved Southern Butter for my trip. I got all four "travel size" tins from The Smitten Kitten and next time, I want one... or two... or all of the bigger tubs of the stuff. I use them for everything: moisturizing skin, taming flyaways, chapstick, makeup remover... I constantly have one in my makeup bag, in my carry-bag, in the bathroom, and next to the bed - and I still haven't run out. They're not latex or polyisoprene condom-safe, but they're ok with Nitrile condoms like the FC2 and polyeurethane condoms - they're great for those who are fluid-bonded and they're perfect for buttstuff. Just, get some. Whether or not you're travelling.

What I'd do differently next time: honestly, not much. I used pretty much everything I brought along and I had enough for the trip. I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to sex toys and traveling, though I am known to show off when I go to conferences.

The femme end of the spectrum, however.... there are quite a few things I'd do differently, or things I want to get for the next time I travel. I tried out some new skincare while I was in Israel - I really liked Ahava - but makeup I liked was difficult to come by. I also left all my nailpolish in the states, but relatively quickly amassed a small collection from SuperPharm - mostly SinfulColors, because I was familiar with the brand. Thinking of SuperPharm makes me want to buy Israeli chocolate and then walk over the Mia Casa for some amazing Italian food...

Sorry, I just took a break to get sad and missing Israel. Though the political climate is complicated, I did have an amazing time there, and I met a lot of great people, and hope I can visit again soon.

Back to talking femme stuff! So there are a few things I want to do differently next time I travel - mostly, there are products I want to get to bring along with me next time that I think will make things... better.

I have been eyeing the Anya Hindmarch In-Flight travel case for years - it's split into two clear compartments for Take Off and Landing, and the transparent case is usually acceptable to keep your liquid makeups and such in. I'm bummed the neon yellow is no longer available, but The black is pretty, too. It's pricy, but I'd love to have one for my carryon.

The Smithfolio from Smith Cosmetics is for brushes and other stuff like tweezers, beauty blenders, etc. I usually carry my must-have makeup with me and I'm terrified of losing luggage, so this would be carried on so I could do my makeup towards the end of the flight. I's also want the mesh add-on for beauty blenders and other odds and ends.

Other important stuff to go in my carry-on would be these super comfy looking cashmere slippers and this binchotan charcoal mask. I know I spoil myself, but it's part of my self care and helps a lot with my anxiety and depression. The anxiety gets pretty intense around flying (I'm terrified of it) so I'd likely include skullcap tincture to put in water. before and during the flight - it helps a lot with making me feel calm and collected.

Above are some in-flight skincare essentials - some are for the beginning of the flight, others are for towards the end of the flight. At take-off, I'd use the Ole Henriksen Nurture Me Cleansing Cloths to remove any makeup and grime before applying a WEI Mung Bean Sprout Stress-Relieving Soothing Mask, which is in a nice little hard plastic vial that can be re-closed and tweezers to take it out. Rae of Raeview recently had them in her updated travel video and I definitely want to try them the next time I fly. After using the mask, I'd slather the remaining essence on my face and neck and let that settle in a bit before applying FRESH Seaberry Oil. I love this stuff - I need to re-stock, but it's one of my go-tos for dry/winter skin. It smells too herbal for some, but I love it. Caudalie Beauty Elixr and Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Lipair are both for during flight for when my face and lips get dry... a common occurrence for me, especially on planes. Not shown is whatever hand cream I'm using at the time... I've had my eye on the Tatcha one for awhile now.

Makeup, haircare, and all that jazz are always so hard for me to choose from, So I'll leave it at "What I'd Bring on The Plane" - which is actually fairly simple. For base, I'd probably use a BB Cream like my favorite Dr. Jart+ Dis-A-Pore, a Powder Foundation (I'm dying to try Burberry's), and blush - I really like the NARS blush in Seduction right now. For eyes, I'd bring along my MakeupGeek Vault Palette - more info on that when it comes in the mail next week! - and whatever eyeliner and mascara I'm on at that point... I just around a lot. but I have a sample of the Marc Jacobs Beauty mascara coming and I'd like to try Kat Von D's tattoo liner. Lipstick would again, be whatever I'm interested in at that point in time... probably a liquid matte like Jeffree Star's or Kat Von D's

Spritz with the Beauty Elixr to set, throw book in bag, sunglasses on if it's daytime, and put my shoes back on... and I'm ready to debark.
